Paige Smith 9/27/12 ECI 430 Freewrite on Writing and Reading Workshops When I think of writing or reading workshops, I think of students listening and practicing writing and reading skills. I do not specifically remember being part of a workshop when I was in middle or high school. I image a teacher explaining to students what they need to work on as a whole and not pin pointing out specific students. I think that workshops are there to help students become more confident in the reading and writing. In a writing workshop, teachers can give the students a topic to write about. He or she can go over the steps of the writing process and then give the students a chance to practice. In reading workshops, I see teachers giving students an interesting book and students going through and reading it. Though I am not knowledgeable about workshops, these are ideas that I think goes on during them. I definitely believe that they can be helpful because if not then teachers would not use them. I see workshops being designated on certain days during class time. Teachers tell the students beforehand that there will be a workshop so they can prepare themselves.
